The convict was said to have, under false pretence, obtained the said sum as loan to supply 22 trucks of diesel to News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, and diverted it to other purposes other than what it was meant for. The offence contravenes Section 1 (1) a, Section 1 (b) (i) and Section 1 (b) (i) of the Advance Fee Fraud Act, 2006 and Dishonoured Cheque Offences. She pleaded not guilty to the counts when she was arraigned. After diligent prosecution, Justice Aboki found Abraham guilty on all three counts. Delivering the judgment, Justice Aboki sentenced her to 10years imprisonment on count one and two years each on counts two and three without option of fine. An eyewitness, Mr Solomon Adube, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Badagry that the suspect was seen carry a sack with blood dripping from it. “The man was seen carrying a bag with blood dripping from it but when he was asked what was in the bag, he claimed it was bush meat, saying he had just finished hunting. “The people insisted on seeing the bush meat but he didn’t oblige, so we suspected foul play and the bag was collected from him. “Upon searching the bag, a head and two hands of a lady was seen in the bag and that was how people descended on him,’’ he said. “The timely intervention of policemen from the Area K Command, Morogbo saved the suspect from being lynched by angry mob,’’ Mr Deji Sebonji, another eyewitness told NAN. The complainant, Olowo Emmanuel, a serving member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, had allegedly sought the services of the accused to help him recover the sum of N35 million, which he paid to Royal Sanderton Technologies Nigeria Limited to acquire two houses. Emmanuel had dragged the company to court, following its inability to deliver the houses as agreed. Consequently, Royal Sanderton was ordered to pay the sum of N15m to the complainant, which was allegedly raised in bank drafts and handed over to the accused. The complainant also alleged that the accused subsequently lodged the money into his personal account and made several withdrawals from it. The charge reads: “That you Adeolu Dada sometime in December, 2014 at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court dishonestly stole the sum of N15,000,000.00 (Fifteen Million Naira), property of Honorable Olowo Rotimi Emmanuel.” The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him. Chinasa, who spoke with newsmen on Sunday, alleged that the teenager, who is also a neighbour stole her son, Chiagozie,. The teenager identified as Simon had earlier confessed to the police that an unidentified Alfa, now in police custody, asked him to supply a three-year-old child. Simon said after he brought Chiagozie to the Alfa, he was given N500 for his efforts. When the three-year-old was finally located by detectives from Isheri Police Station, he was already dead. Chinasa, who broke down in tears, said that she was not only grieving for her murdered son, but also scared about strange men on motorbikes coming to threaten her and her husband, Augustine Okereke. The woman who lives in a multi-room building, has three other children, apart from Chiagozie. The eldest is 10years old, the second child is eight years old. Chiagozie was her third child. Her fourth child is just nine months old. She explained that on the fateful day, she wanted to give three of her children a bath outside the house when the three year-old child was abducted. According to her account, she had briefly stepped into the house to get a wrapper to strap the nine-month-old to her back. But when she returned Chiagozie was nowhere to be found. Lagos State Police spokesman, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect was arrested on Thursday for terrorising the public in a CSP uniform in Surulere area. “At about 4pm on March 16, the command operatives attached to Area ‘C’ Command, Surulere, arrested the suspect following reliable information. “The suspect over the years has been parading himself as a police officer and extorting money and other valuables from unsuspecting public. “The suspect was intercepted under the National Stadium Bridge, Surulere where he was about to resume his criminal activities. “On sighting the patrol team, the suspect took to his heels, but was given a hot chase that resulted to his arrest at Shitta Area of Surulere. “A walkie-talkie, a Lagos State Ministry of Transportation identity card bearing the name, Olayiwola Animashaun and his passport photograph, were found in his possession,” he said. The spokesman said the suspect later led the detectives to his residence where exhibits, including a traffic taskforce reflective jacket, police statement forms, and a machete, were recovered from his house. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 17, at New Iyin Area in Ado-Ekiti. Leranmo alleged that the accused improperly and indecently interfered with the corpse of his late wife, Oyinola Bolodeoku, buried a year ago. The defendant allegedly exhumed the corpse and kept it in a ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag. He said the accused committed the offence which is punishable under Section 242 (1) b of Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012. He also alleged that the accused did ‘vitiate the atmosphere, so as to make it harmful to the health of persons in the neighbourhood, when he brought the decomposed corpse of his wife in a bag to the neighbourhood’. According to him, he has therefore committed an offence punishable under Section 247 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012. The prosecutor applied for a date of adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his three witnesses. The spokesman of the police, Jimoh Moshood said this in Abuja on Monday, revealing that 38 suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident. Speaking while the suspects were paraded, Moshood said 38 people were initially arrested but 18 were let go because there was no evidence against them. Otobo was charged alongside Wisdom Godstime, aged 43. They are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, blackmail, and threat to life, preferred against them by the police. The prosecutor, M. A. Animashaun, told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the alleged offence on February 14, 2017, at about 10:30am, at Police College, Ikeja, Lagos. He said the duo conspired to steal by demanding for property with menace and an attempt to extort money. Animashaun also said the defendants, with intent to blackmail, unlawfully demanded the payment of $1 million to Otobo by Apostle Suleiman, else she would call a press conference and accuse him of committing adultery with her and having illicit relationship with her and thereafter kill him. The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants with intent to extort money from Suleiman, accused him of committing adultery with Otobo, and also promised to marry her. The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing preferred against him by the police. Follow @NigeriaPI A federal High Court in Lagos in Nigeria’s southwest zone has ruled that a limited liability company, Acquila Leasing Limited, should temporarily forfeit N1.825 billion found in the company’s account to the Federal Government. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which obtained the forfeiture order on behalf of the Federal Government, alleged that the sum was part of a total of N2.387 billion diverted from the coffers of the Nigerian Navy by a former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dele Ezeoba (retired). Mr. Ezeoba headed the Nigerian Navy between 2012 and 2014. An EFCC prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo, filed an ex-parte application for temporary forfeiture of the funds before Justice Muslim Hassan. The application invoked Section 17 of Nigeria’s Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006 as well as Section 44(2)(k) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution. In the filing, Mr. Oyedepo urged the court to urgently grant the forfeiture order in the interest of justice. Justice Hassan granted the order and gave 14 days for Chuka Onwuchekwa and his company, Acquila Leasing Limited,as well as any other party interested in the money to appear before him to give reasons why the fund should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria. Justice Hassan adjourned the case till March 29, 2017 for any interested parties to appear before him. The three persons, Idris Abubakar, Anas Abubakar and Aliyu Abubakar, instituted the case against the Inspector General of Police. Also joined in the suit No. FHC/KD/CS/22/2016 were the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State and the Divisional Police Officer, Kabala Police Station. The complainants said that they were arrested by the police for alleged theft and were detained for six days, after which the police claimed that they were members of Boko Haram. The complainants said since their arrest, they were neither released nor taken to court, adding that their lawyers and relatives were denied access to them. In his judgment, Justice Emeka Nwite, after hearing arguments from Counsel to the applicants, Baba Lawal-Aliyu and that of the respondents, E C Enwelum, ruled that the continued detention of the applicants violated their fundamental human rights. He also ruled that the police had not provided any evidence to warrant their long detention or assertion that the three were members of the Boko Haram.
