Sharia Police Set To Try 120 Underage Sex Workers Arrested In Kano.

Follow @NigeriaPI The Kano Sharia Police has arrested 120 suspected underage commercial sex workers at a popular recreational centre in the state. The operation was done by the Sharia police, alongside the National Drug Law En­forcement Agency, NDLEA. The Director General of Hisbah board, Alhaji Abba Saidu Sufi while briefing newsmen in his office, said that the night raid was based on information by residents of the area. Sufi said that out of the 120 girls arrested, 20 out of the figures were underage whose ages fell within 13, 14, and 17. Sufi revealed that most of the suspects in its custody were not first time offenders. Man Arraigned For Allegedly Beating Pastor, Destroying Church Property In Lagos.

Follow @NigeriaPI A 49-year-old man identified as Abiodun Adey­inka has been arraigned at an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly beating up a pastor and damaging his property worth N5 million. Adeyinka is facing a six-count bordering on mali­cious damage, conspiracy, unlawful assault on the Celestial Church of Christ, CCC, pastor and manner likely to cause breach of peace. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Cousin Adams, told the court that the accused committed the offences on January 3, 2016, at noon, at No. 64, Adekunle Banjo Street, Magodo, Lagos. He added that Adeyinka forcibly entered into a Celestial Church of Christ building during worship, causing panic among the worshippers before damaging the church property. He named the damaged property as Jazz musical instrument, Konga drum, piano, five wireless micro­phones, six pieces of altar clothes, assorted church perfumes, wedding gowns and sacred pictures of Mary and Jesus. Nigerian Army Lieutenant Killed In Boko Haram Attack

Follow @NigeriaPI A security source in Maiduguri says Boko Haram terrorists have killed a Nigerian army Lieutenant in an attack in Magumeri town in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday evening. The source said the militants ambushed Lieutenant Akinwale Christopher Oguntoye and his colleagues on their way to Gubio from a shooting range competition in Monguno. The officers were pinned down by terrorists in Magumeri where they razed down houses, including a police station in the town. Lt. Akinwale was a member of the 60 Regular Course cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy and was briefly an Aide De Camp to a former President of Guinea-Bissau The militants rode into the area in 10 utility vehicles, shooting and attacking military formations. Nigerian army detains six soldiers for allegedly brutalising woman

Six soldiers, the army said, are currently in detention over the incident. This is the third time such incident would be occurring within a month. The victim whose name was given as Ruth Orji was said to have been beaten on Sunday by soldiers from 174 Battalion, Ikorodu, Lagos State, for daring to challenge a soldier who reportedly slapped her brother. Graphic photos of the brutalised woman were shared on the social media, prompting Nigerians to call for immediate action against the culprits. The army said on Thursday that the incident was “highly regrettable”. Man Gets 2 Years Imprisonment For Stealing Phone In Lagos.

Follow @NigeriaPI An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 20-year-old man, Hassan Badmus, to two years imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone valued at N85,000. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, did not give Badmus an option of fine. She held that the accused was guilty of a two-count charge of stealing and burglary levelled against him. The chief magistrate sentenced the accused to one year imprisonment on each of the counts. She hoped that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to criminal acts. The accused who resides at Badagry, Lagos, was arraigned on Feb. 22. The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha, had told the court that he burgled the residence of Mr Chibuike Okonkwo and stole his Samsung phone valued at N85,000. Inuoha said the accused was apprehended by security guards as he was about leaving the house. He said that the theft occurred on Jan. 26 on Agumaje Street, Badagry, adding that the offences contravened Sections 21, 285 and 305 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. EFCC: Fayose paid Ozekhome from N1.2b Dasuki’s slush fund

Follow @NigeriaPI The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday said Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose paid an intial N75million to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) ,Mike Ozekhome, from an alleged N1.2billion the governor allegedly received from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). The commission said it froze Ozekhome’s account because the money was suspected to be a proceed of crime. Ozekhome prayed Justice Abdullazeez Anka to unfreeze his firm’s account, which the court froze at EFCC’s instance on February 7. Opposing the application, EFCC’s lawyer Rotimi Oyedepo argued that Ozekhome ought to have known that the money he received was proceeds of “fraudulent activities”. He said: “EFCC received an intelligence report that Mr Ayodele Fayose received N1,219,490,000 from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) through the former Minister of State for Defence Musiliu Obanikoro, who conveyed the money through an aircraft to Akure airport. “It discovered that N137million was paid into an account, 1003126654, operated by Fayose on June 26, 2014. “On August 22 and 27, 2014, N50million and N118million were also credited to the account.” Oyedepo said having discovered the funds were “proceeds of crime”, EFCC approached Justice Mohammed Idris of the court’s Lagos division for an order freezing the account. The properties to be forfeited by the convict are an empty plot of land fenced with black gate located along the road beside Secam Church, Providence Estate, Sango Eleyele Expressway, Ibadan. He is also to forfeit a Honda Accord Car 2014 model and another empty plot of land located at Alao Akala Estate, along Akubu Ojuirin, near Apostolic Church, Ikolaba, Ibadan. Others are a storey building located at Aminu Olaniran Street, Ikolaba behind the Apostolic church, Ikolaba Assembly, Ikolaba, Ibadan; and three acres of land at Okuna Village, Along Akufo Village, by Fumakson filling station, Ido Local Government Area, Ibadan. Islamic Cleric arrested for stoning 3-year-old boy to death

A 15-year-old boy, Simon Kanu, said he was paid N500 by the said Alimson to lure the baby, adding that the baby was killed with a heavy stone in his presence. The deceased’s mother explained that her baby went missing around 7.pm on Tuesday after she brought him out for his evening bath. She narrated: “When I finished bathing the younger one, I went inside to get the wrapper to strap him in order to enable me bathe the other child. But on getting outside, I didn’t see my baby again. The sister said he went into my neighbour’s house but I didn’t see him there and when I asked, they said he went out with Simon. “I called my son’s name but there was no response. Later, we saw Simon that night, I asked him about the whereabouts of my son, he said he did not see him. Simon took my son, strangled him with his shirt and stoned him to death. He is my third child. I feel hurt. My heart is broken. Follow @NigeriaPI The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that Chief Mike Ozekhome acted contrary to the law when he failed to inform the commission of the seventy-five million naira he claimed was paid to him as a legal fee by the governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose. At the resumed hearing today on the application seeking an order to unfreeze the accounts of Ozekhome chambers EFCC counsel Rotimi Oyedepo said it is the law that lawyers must report to the EFCC when they receive payment more than 10 million naira. Arguing before Justice Abdulazeez Anka of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, Oyedepo said Ozekhome committed an infraction of the law by failing to do so. Chief Ozekhome in response, argued that is not the place of lawyers to report their payment to the commission but of the bank to alert the EFCC when they receive deposits more than ten million naira. The Commission had claimed that the N75m paid into the account at Guaranty Trust Bank by Governor Fayose was a proceed of crime and that the senior lawyer reasonably ought to have known that he should not receive such money whether it was a legal fee or not. In a unanimous decision on Friday, the five Justices of the Supreme Court who sat on the matter upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division. In his lead Judgment, Justice C.C Nwaeze found no merit in the appeal and therefore, dismissed it. Serah Ezekiel was sued at the Federal High Court, Ikeja, Lagos on November 18, 2011 by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation on an 18 Counts charge, all bothering on offences of trafficking in persons contrary to various sections of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003 (as amended) Ezekiel, who was 29 year old as at the time of committing the offence in July 2011 procured four females, aged 17, 19, 20 and 21 years from various parts of Lagos State and took them to Mali where they were used as prostitutes. The two female suicide bombers, PRNigeria gathered, were subdued when they refused to surrender and attempted to attack a security post. The incident occurred in Ummarari village along Mulai axis of Maiduguri-Damboa road at the outskirts of Maiduguri. Six killed as suicide bombers attack Maiduguri

Four deafening explosions echoed over Maiduguri in quick successions at about 1.15 a.m., causing sleeping residents to jump out of their beds in fear of yet another horrific attack by Boko Haram. About 16 persons were also injured in the blasts. The security agencies are yet to provide details of what actually happened. But the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said the explosions were caused by four teenage suicide bombers who attacked a location in Maiduguri, called Muna garage, which has been repeatedly attacked by suicide bomber in the past six months. The spokesperson of NEMA, Sani Datti, said in a statement that “four female teenage suicide bombers killed two other men (6 people dead) when they detonated explosives at Usmanti along muna Garage road at about 1.15 a.m.” He added that about “16 people who got injured were administered with first aid by rescue workers before being transported to the state specialist hospital and university teaching hospital in Maiduguri Borno state”. EFCC seizes N49m cash at Kaduna airport

This is the puzzle the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is trying to resolve. The EFCC found the cash on Monday night, packed in sacks. A man believed to be the owner ran away before EFCC operatives could question him. The cash was discovered by EFCC Zonal Office in Kaduna in five large black 150kg sacks during routine baggage screening at the airport. A top source in the commission said: “Upon careful scrutiny of the sacks, it was discovered that they contained fresh crispy naira notes of N200 denomination in 200 bundles totaling N40million and N50 denomination in 180 bundles totaling N9million. “The bundles were all sealed, purportedly emanating from the Nigerian Security and Minting Company (MSPMC) as seen in the label on the packs. “The five sacks were sighted unattended and without tags containing fresh bulk items suspected to be money from the aroma perceived from the sacks. “The owner of the money later showed up but could not state the exact money in the sacks or present any document authenticating the genesis of the monies. “However, his inability to give any concrete explanation made him become uncomfortable and he disappeared before the arrival of EFCC operatives.” Another source said the EFCC was working on clues that the fleeing suspect might be a courier for a syndicate. “We will get to the root of this crime. 50-year-old grandmother sells three-year-old girl to pay rent

Eze was paraded along with one Ogochi Nwekei and Gladys Augustine at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday. The fourth suspect, Elizabeth, who was said to be ill, was not paraded. PUNCH Metro had reported that Augustine, who claimed to be Mary John, connived with one Samuel, who is at large, to abduct three-year-old Oluwasemilore Adebiyi, from her parents’ residence in the Alagbado area of Lagos. To hatch the plan, 28-year-old Augustine enrolled for beads-making apprenticeship at Oluwasemilore’s mother’s shop in January, giving her name as Mary John. She fled to Anambra with the girl seven days after. The girl was handed over to Eze, who confessed to selling her to Elizabeth through Nwekei, for N500,000. Oluwasemilore was, however, recovered by the police after Augustine was arrested in the Badagry area of Lagos on February 23.
