Police, yesterday, brought a 33-year-old security man, Donald Alaribe, before an Igbosere chief magistrate’s court, Lagos, over alleged theft of items worth $20,100.
The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing preferred against him by the police. The prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Joseph, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the alleged offence on March 18 at about 1p.m., at Plot 47, Castle and Temple Drive, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos. The prosecutor said that the stolen items are a Nigerian passport, two British passports, three engagement rings valued $20,000 US, spare keys and the spare key of a Mistibushi car, valued N50,000, belonging to one Tokunbo Olugbade, the complainant. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate A. O. Awogboro granted him N1 million bail, with two sureties in like sum. She said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation, and show proof of payment of tax to Lagos State government and have their addresses verified.
The case was adjourned till May 3 for mention
