Follow @NigeriaPI A federal judge in Lagos ordered the forfeiture of a total of N34b linked to former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke on Thursday, Premium Times reports. Justice Muslim Hassan issued the order mandating that three different funds – N23.4b, N9.08b, and $5m USD – are forfeited, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said they were the proceeds of illegal activity. The judge had originally ordered the temporary forfeiture of the funds on January 6, but made an order demanding the “final forfeiture” of the money on Thursday....

Passenger Kills Motorcyclist Over N50.

Follow @NigeriaPI A disagreement over N50 has led to the death of a motorcyclist, Michael Eze, in the Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State. Forty-year-old Eze was allegedly killed by his passenger, Michael Gabriel, around 9pm on February 2, 2017, for demanding that N50 be added to their agreed fare due to the length of the journey. Gabriel, in a fit of anger, allegedly hit the victim with an iron rod in the head, which made him to collapse. He was rushed to a private hospital in the community where he was confirmed dead. Policemen from the state command arrested the suspect. A resident, who did not want to be identified, said Gabriel was close to his house when the incident happened. He said, “When the rider saw that the house was farther than what Garbiel described to him, he insisted that N50 must be added to the fare they agreed on. That was what led to the disagreement.” The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Amaraizu Ebere, confirmed the incident. Follow @NigeriaPI The Police Command in Enugu State has arrested two members of vigilance group in Nimbo, Uzouwani Local Government of Enugu State, for alleged kidnap of Enechi Ejiofor on Dec. 13, 2016. The command’s spokesperson, SP. Ebere Amaraizu, made this known to newsmen in Enugu on Thursday. Amaraizu said the suspects abducted Ejiofor, a Special Assistant on Security Matters to Uzo Uwani Local Government Area Chairman, in December on his way to an official assignment at Ugwuiyi Ekoro was still missing. He said that the kidnappers demanded N10 million ransom on Dec.14, 2016 from the family but later reduced it to two million which one of the suspects collected. The police spokesperson said that the two suspects were helping the operatives in their investigations. He said that the first suspects revealed that they allegedly collaborated with the community vigilance group to kidnap the victim. Amaraizu said that the first suspect, who claimed to be a Nollywood actor, said that he played a big role in monitoring the victim’s movement because he knows him very well,’’ he said. The police spokesperson said that the suspects claimed not to know the whereabouts of the victim, saying that some vigilante members known as Ratty, Miri and Earthquake, whom he did not know their real names, knew better. Follow @NigeriaPI A Plateau High Court sitting in Barkin-Ladi on Thursday sentenced a 37-year-old man, Benjamin Toma, to death by hanging for killing his wife, Vicky. Justice Samson Gang, in a 68-page do judgement, pronounced Toma guilty of a one-count charge of culpable homicide, punishable with death, under section 221 of the penal code. Going by the findings of this court, you, Benjamin Toma, mercilessly and in a calculative manner, took the life of your wife in cold blood. “You have not shown any remorse for your reprehensible act at the time of the incident and throughout the entire trial. “You were exhibiting such character traits that seem to suggest your deep conviction about the justness of your wicked and calous act. “In all of this, your two children are the ultimate losers, but the law shall nonetheless take its course; the offence for which you are being charged, does not contemplate a plea in mitigation. “The sentence of this court upon you is that you, Benjamin Toma, will be hanged until you are dead,” Gang declared. It was gathered that Toma was arraigned on Oct. 13, 2014, to answer a one-count charge of culpable homicide punishable with death, under section 221 of the penal code. He was said to have committed the crime on March 4, 2014. Housewife Gets 7 Months Imprisonment For Refusing To Pay Back Borrowed Money.

Follow @NigeriaPI Dos – A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a housewife, Gift Benjamin, 41, to seven months imprisonment for converting her friend’s N100, 000 to personal use. Benjamin, a resident of Abattoir area of Jos borrowed the amount from her friend and did not pay back. She faced a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and theft, punishable under sections 317 and 322 of the penal code. The Magistrate, Mrs Helen Danboyi, gave the sentence after the accused pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court for mercy. Danboyi said that the sentence would serve as deterrence to others who may want to engage in similar act. The Prosecutor, Cpl. Karimu Bashiru, had earlier told the court that one Mercy Amadi reported the case to Anglo Jos Police Station on Jan. 30. He said that Amadi claimed to have been deceived by the accused who lied to her that she (accused) was awarded a contract to knit 400 pieces of mobile policemen sweater. ”She collected N100, 000 and promised that she would return the money with 100 per cent interest,” the prosecutor quoted the complainant as saying. Bashiru said that instead of returning the money as agreed, the accused converted the whole money into her personnel use and all effort made to recover the money proved abortive.
