Principal Arrested For Child Trafficking In Ebonyi

Follow @NigeriaPI The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a female principal for allegedly buying two female babies from a suspected child trafficking syndicate. The principal was apprehended in Uburu community, in the Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state. It was gathered that the principal was arrested after the police smashed the syndicate, which specialised in buying and selling of babies. The Desk Officer of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related offences (NAPTIP) in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Florence Onwa, said the suspect was arrested following a tip-off that the woman was in possession of two suspected stolen babies. Onwas said, “After weeks of thorough investigation, a crack team from NAPTIP in collaboration with operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), stormed Uburu where they arrested the school principal and recovered the stolen babies. “We discovered that the suspect did not give birth to the babies, and the babies were not even in her late husband’s house; they were in her sister’s house,” she said. Police found him Tuesday, with his engine running in the garage of his home after he was reportedly trying to kill himself, police said. When police searched the house, they found the dead body of his wife Kristen McShane, police said. Police were first called to the home, when family members were unable to contact Kristen – and got worried. Police said George tried to alleviate the family’s fears by logging onto his wife’s Facebook and posting that she dropped her phone in the toilet. George posted, “I can’t believe I dropped my phone in the toilet. I’m such an idiot. Message me here, til I can get it fixed.” It worked for a few days, but family and friends continued their suspicion – and eventually notified authorities. Follow @NigeriaPI According to the Tribune Newspaper, AN Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of Training and Development at the Edo State Police Command has reportedly committed suicide in Benin City. The police chief, whose name was given as ACP Christopher Nosakhare Osakue, was said to have shot himself in the head with his service pistol in his private residence in Upper Sokponba area of Benin City on Wednesday. The Edo State-born police chief was reported to have sent a woman and a boy living with him on an errand so that he could carry out the act without anybody noticing him. It was gathered that ACP Osakue suffered a partial stroke a few years ago and was gradually recovering when he took his own life. He was said to have left no suicide note for his wife and children. The deceased’s residence was deserted on Saturday while an ash-colour Lexus SUV with number plate ONDO NND-131HV was seen in the compound of the bungalow. A neighbour said she heard a gunshot inside the ACP’s residence at about 5.00 p.m. on Wednesday. It was further learnt that the police officer hosted some youths in his area who visited him last Christmas to a reception. The ACP family members could not be reached for comment. Follow @NigeriaPI Police have raided a baby factory and arrested at least six pregnant women who are allegedly planning to sell their newborn babies after delivery in Delta State. The police said the arrest was made in Okwe community, Oshimili South Local Government Area of the state in Nigeria’s South-south region. They revealed that a victim, Blessing Aondoseer, had reported that her husband allegedly connived with some people to take away her two weeks old baby.   The suspected baby factory syndicates were paraded on Saturday at the Police Headquarters in Asaba, the Delta State capital. The spokesman for the Command, Celestina Kalu, said the police recorded another breakthrough when they apprehended a 74-year-old man reported to have defiled a 14-year-old girl. The police mouthpiece said investigation was ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate who were at large. He noted that the rising incidences of baby factories had added to Nigeria’s human rights issues. Follow @NigeriaPI The Kaduna State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has seized illicit drugs worth over 30 million Naira and arrested nine suspected drug addicts and peddlers in Zaria. Parading the suspects before journalists at the command’s headquarters in Kaduna, the state commander, Samuel Azige, said the suspects were arrested during a raid at their hideouts in Zaria where they stored the illicit drugs in a warehouse. According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects stored in cartons banned tramadol drugs weighing over 500 grams. He explained that the drug apart from being banned by the World Health Organisation, (W.H.O) has also expired and therefore harmful for human consumption. The NDLEA Commander stated that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
