The Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris, has warned Nigerians to be wary of unscrupulous persons that have created social media accounts and are parading themselves as the AGF.
This is contained in a statement by the Deputy Director, Press, Mrs Kenechukwu Offie, in Abuja on Thursday.
Offie said that the OAGF had reported the nefarious activities of the scammers to the Department of State Services.
According to him, the action has started yielding results, as one of the scammers was arrested by security operatives in Benin for impersonating the AGF.
He said, “It was further revealed that Mohammed, using a bogus Facebook account where he poses as the AGF, had already defrauded some unwary members of the public.
He said, “It was further revealed that Mohammed, using a bogus Facebook account where he poses as the AGF, had already defrauded some unwary members of the public.
“This he did by promising to help them facilitate access to the Central Bank Empowerment Loans among other dubious claims.
“The general public is hereby notified that the AGF as a thorough-bred professional does not transact businesses on Facebook or any other social media platform nor facilitates access to loans for anyone.
“The office hereby advises the general public to be wary of the activities of fraudsters, as they go about their businesses, especially, while using the social media.”
