Herdman Arrested For Trying To Kidnap A Fellow Herdman

Follow @NigeriaPI An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a herdsman, Ibrahim Abdul, 20, in prison for allegedly attempting to kidnap a fellow herdsmen, Muhammed Abdullahi. The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Edwin, ordered the remand of the accused in Olokuta Prisons, pending an advice from the state’s director of public prosecutions. The accused, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted kidnap. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Adebiyi Abiodun, told court that the accused and others still at large, attempted to kidnap Abdullahi with intent to demand N3 million ransom. Abiodun said the accused committed the offences on Jan.15, 2017 at about 8.30 a.m. at Idasan Street, Owo in Ondo State. Police Arraigns Man For Stealing 19 Car Batteries In Osun.

Follow @NigeriaPI A 35-year-oldman, Lawal Isiaka, was on Monday arraigned in an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged theft of 19 motor batteries. Isiaka is facing a three-count of conspiracy, theft and burglary. The prosecutor, Insp. Dopamu Olukayode, told the court that the accused committed the offences on February 24 at about 2:00 p.m. at Power Line area, Osogbo. Olukayode said that Isiaka conspired with one other now at large to steal 19 car batteries belonging to one Awoyemi Femi. He put the value of the 19 batteries at N345,000. The offences contravened Sections 516, 413, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. The counsel to the accused, Mr Lukeman Adeniyi, prayed the court to grant his client bail on the most liberal terms. Court Arraigns Sex Workers For Violent Act In Abuja.

Follow @NigeriaPI The police on Monday arraigned three commercial sex workers in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja for attacking and causing grievous hurt on colleagues. The defendants, Helen Gabriel, Joy Johnson and Ene Ahmed, all reside at Jabi Masallachi, Abuja, and are standing trial on two-count. The prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that Joy Opera and three others of same address with the defendants reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on Feb. 21. Dalhatu said on that date, the complainant reported that the defendants formed a common intention and attacked her and her colleagues at Eden Garden, Utako, Abuja, and inflicted serious injuries on their bodies with razor blades. He said the attack was “due to a little misunderstanding over a customer.” He added that the complainants were taken to Wuse General Hospital, Abuja, for treatment. The prosecutor noted that “the first defendant was the one who used the razor blade on the girls, while the second and third defendant were her girls.” He said the offence contravened sections 79 and 248 of the Penal Code. The first defendant pleaded guilty to the charges, while the second and third defendants pleaded not. Cynthia Nnamdi, Counsel to the second and third defendants, applied for their bail and assured that they would not jump. Two Brothers Arraigned For Alleged N36m Theft.

Follow @NigeriaPI Two brothers, Rafiu Sodiq and Olalekan Sodiq, who allegedly broke into their employer’s house and stole property and cash valued at N36 million, were on Wednesday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. The accused, who are cleaners, are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, trespass and stealing. The prosecutor, Insp. Abbass Abayomi‎, told the court that the duo and others still at large committed the offences between Dec. 22, 2016 and ‎Jan. 31 at 7. 30 p.m. at No. 8, Gerrald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. Abayomi said that the brothers unlawfully broke into the house of the complainant, Mr Eke U. Eke, and stole some valuables including jewellery, all valued at N36 million. Items stolen include jewellery, gold, diamond valued at N20 million, seven pieces of fashion belt valued at N2.5 million. Others are some dollars equivalent of N2.5 million, 1, 000 pounds (N625,000) three iPads valued at N1.4 million, two watches valued at N1.2 million. The accused also allegedly stole two handbags valued at N2 million and two Bluetooth speakers valued at N350,000, all property of Eke. According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 285 (1) 305 (a), (b), 306 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. However, the duo pleaded innocence of the offences. The accused — Tosin Olabisi, 19; Jimoh Obrahim, 19; Rasheed Odumade, 19; Sheriff Agbomeji, 20; and Rasaki Ayinde, 40 — are facing a four-count bordering on conspiracy, stealing and murder. The prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Nwadione told the court that the accused committed the offences on December 18, 2016, at No. 5, Musiliu Murtala St., Poka in Epe. He said the accused, who were armed with a locally made pistol, robbed a man, Nurudeen Sanni, of his phone valued at N37, 250 and shot him on his forehead. The offences contravened Sections 222, 233 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 222 provides death sentence for offenders. Police Arrests Man With Possession On N8.9m N1000 Notes

Follow @NigeriaPI The Police in Nasarawa State said on Thursday that they had arrested a man, Wale Lawal, for being in possession of fake N1,000 notes worth N8.9m. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, told newsmen in Lafia that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday at Omgbolo Hotel in Bukan-sidi area of Lafia. Sadiq-Bello said officers from the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the command made the arrest following intelligence report. He said investigation had revealed that the suspect, who hailed from Lagos State, is a member of a syndicate that was producing and distributing counterfeit currency notes across the country. The commissioner said that the syndicate was based in Lagos and that investigation was ongoing with a view to apprehending other members. He said the suspect would be charged to court after investigation and called on the public to be very vigilant while carrying out cash transactions with other people. Meanwhile, the suspect has denied being a member of any syndicate and claimed innocence of the allegation. The yet-to-be-identified infant, believed to be four years, was killed by her step-mother for reason yet to be ascertained. Follow @NigeriaPI Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Thursday said five persons have been sentenced to various prison terms for selling fake forms to unsuspecting candidates. He said JAMB had embarked on massive prosecution of individuals and syndicates that engaged in the sales of fake forms to let them know that it is no longer “business as usual.” Oloyede, who spoke at the 2017 Nigerian Academy of Letters Annual Lecture on Thursday in Abuja, said there was delay in the sales of the forms due to logistics. He said the board would begin sales of forms once the board had finished sanitizing the system. Oloyede said: “We have observed that people are selling fake forms but what we are doing is to try to sanitize the system and as soon as the sanitization is done we will start selling the forms. “We have arrested so many people in Abuja, Abeokuta, Ado Ekiti, Port Harcourt, Yenegoa, almost everywhere. You know bad people are evenly distributed in Nigeria. “We are prosecuting and some are in courts and in the last three months we have secured about five convictions. Court Sentences Man To Death For Killing His Wife.

Follow @NigeriaPI An Ikeja Division of the Lagos High Court on Thursday sentenced a man, Sulaiman Olalekan, to death by hanging for the murder of his wife, Chika Egbo, on November 20, 2012, in a case of domestic violence. The convict, on the fateful day, had poured acid on his wife, having become overwhelmed by the fact that the deceased went back to prostitution against his advice. The trial judge, Lawal Akapo, in his judgment, convicted Mr. Olalekan for the murder of his wife and sentenced him to death accordingly. After the sad incident which resulted in the eventual death of the victim, Ms. Egbo, and in line with the zero tolerance posture of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration on issues of domestic violence, the Lagos State Government through the State’s Ministry of Justice had taken over the prosecution of the case and filed necessary processes in court. Mr. Olalekan reportedly met the deceased at Signal Hotel in Ijeshatedo area of Lagos State, where they started a relationship that resulted in marriage. It was after the marriage that Mr. Olalekan bought her a second hand Volkswagen Bus and paid her school fees at the Enugu College of Education. But the deceased reportedly reneged on her commitment to the relationship by returning to prostitution, which caused Mr. Olalekan to procure acid from a battery charger in Ikotun area of the State and lured her to visit with his mother on the day when he poured raw acid on the deceased. The accused, who resides at 61, Abeokuta St., Ogba, Lagos is being tried for rape. The Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on January 26 at the residence of the accused. Tijjani, a resident of Jugwa Extension, New Karu in Nassarawa State, was arraigned on three counts of criminal conspiracy, store breaking and theft. The magistrate, Mrs. Helen Danboyi, handed down the sentence after the accused pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency. The prosecutor, Karimu Bashiru, had told the court that one Udeh Ubong of Rayfield, Jos reported the case to Anglo Jos police station, on February 8. NDLEA Secures Convictions Of 6 Illicit Drug Traffickers

Follow @NigeriaPI The Edo Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has secured convictions of six illicit drug traffickers in the state from January to date. The State Commander of the agency, Mr Buba Wakawa, disclosed this in Benin on Wednesday. Wakawa said the convictions were secured at the Federal High Court sitting in the state. He also disclosed that within the same period 40 suspects comprising 32 males and eight females were arrested for various illicit drug offences. He said that 10 persons were counseled by the agency during the period under review. The commander revealed that a Dangote articulated vehicle driver who escaped arrest in November 2016 when apprehended with about 7, 950 kilogrammes of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, had been re-arrested. He said that within the period 4, 749.2 kilogrammes of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa were seized, while 15 kilogrammes of suspected psychotropic drugs were also seized. Wakawa gave the breakdown of the figure as 1, 767.7 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis sativa seized in January, and 2, 981.5 kilogrammes were seized in February. The court did not take the plea of the 47-year-old Ayobami. Court Arraigns Woman For Stealing 2 Month Old Baby.

Yetunde Awosanye, 35, was arraigned before an Ebutte Meta Magistrate Court for stealing the infant on February 2. The prosecutor, Kehinde Omisakin, said the accused committed the crime in Rentothen House Topa in Badagry, Lagos. Ms. Omisakin said the incident happened when the infant’s mother (whose name was not disclosed) was attending to customers in her shop, and the accused came to offer to help carry the baby. After the infant was handed over to her, the accused disappeared. While she was screaming and searching for her baby, a woman in a nearby shop said she saw Ms. Awosanye heading towards Mile 2 with the baby. Ms. Omisakin said the victim immediately informed her husband and he ran to Badagry police station to report the matter. She said the police followed the matter and caught the accused with the baby the next day, February 3. In her defence, the accused said she was a close friend of the victim and that she meant no harm, a claim the victim denied saying she only sees her in the neighbourhood.
