Kogi Police Collaborating With Other Agencies To Curd Crime-CP

Follow @NigeriaPI The Commissioner of Police in Kogi, Mr Abdullahi Chafe, in Abuja on Sunday said the Command was working in collaboration with other security agencies to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state. Chafe who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that the command was also adopting the community policing strategy to fight crime and criminalities in the state. He said that the command was constantly interfacing with traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders in the state to ensure peaceful atmosphere in the state. The commissioner said that members of the various communities in the state now voluntarily gave information to the police on activities of criminals. “We also get support from the state government and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris,” he said. The commissioner said that with the support of the state government the rate of kidnapping had been reduced drastically. He said that the topographical nature of the state was also militating against crime control in the state. The topographical nature of the state is another contributing factor why security issue is enormous in the state. “It is a state that has tick forests, mountainous and hilly structures, these factors are militating against crime control in the state. “Kogi is the only state in the country bordering nine states of Niger, Ekiti, Edo, Anambra, Kwara, Ondo, Enugu, Benue and Nasarawa,”he said. Follow @NigeriaPI LAGOS—Luck finally ran out for a suspected robber identified as Gbenga Babatunde, 25, when operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the Lagos State Police Command arrested him on Saturday, while he was trying to rob a lady that had gone to make use of an Automated Teller Machine, ATM, at Alaba Rago Market, Ojo Local Government Area of the state. Babatunde, in his confessional statement, revealed that to rob early users of ATMs, he passed the night at a targeted point. He also said that he had robbed over 35 ATM users in Alaba Rago Market area before his arrest. The suspected gun-wielding robber was chased and arrested by the operatives patrolling the area, during which a cut-to-size locally-made gun, two live cartridges and some debit cards were recovered from him. His accomplice, who the suspect claimed introduced him to the crime, escaped. Confession Babatunde narrated: “I have been in the crime since I met my colleague, Samson Baba Ramadan. I met him at Field Joint, Alaba, two years ago and since then we have been working together. “We have robbed about 35 people together. We get to a target ATM point by 4a.m. and hide in any shop close-by. As soon as anybody collects money, we will accost the person, collect the money and escape. The arrest is linked to his tweets about a fatal attack on his relatives in Southern Kaduna that turned out to be false, his lawyer said Friday. Mark Jacobs told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Maikori, 41, was arrested in Lagos around noon Friday by a team of police officers attached to inspector-general monitoring and intelligence team and was immediately transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja. “I arrived at the Force Headquarters and learnt that a detention order has already been signed for him,” Mr. Jacobs said of his client. “I am not sure he will be released tonight.” Mr. Jacobs said he was told by the police that a magistrate issued warrant for Mr. Maikori’s arrest and are planning to charged him with attempt to “incite” the public. Follow @NigeriaPI The Borno Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it had arrested three herbal medicine vendors who disguised as employers to defraud unemployed youths. The Commandant of the corps, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Sunday. Abdullahi said the suspects were arrested on Feb. 14 at Kofar Shehu area, Maiduguri. He said that the culprits posed as employers of labour and tried to dupe unemployed youths by taking money from them and promising to give them jobs. “Their nefarious activities were reported by two of the victims (names withheld) who said that they had collected about N5,000 each from them for a job. “One of the victims told the command that he was asked to bring about N17,000 to register for the Job. “He asked about the type of job and they said he should not worry when he registered, they would tell him about the job,” he said. Follow @NigeriaPI Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old robbery suspect, who specialises in attacking ATM users at different parts of the metropolis. The command’s spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Lagos on Sunday. Badmos said the suspect, Gbenga Babatunde, was arrested by operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) when he was attempting to attack a victim. She added that the suspect confessed to have robbed about 35 ATM users before his arrest. Badmos said that the suspect allegedly attacked a lady who had just withdrawn some unspecified amount from an ATM at about 5.48 a.m, at Alaba Rago Market, Ojo Area in Lagos. “The victim raised an alarm which attracted the RRS operatives on patrol. They chased the suspect and got him arrested. “One cut to size locally made short gun with two life cartridges were recovered from him. “Also recovered were Diamond Bank debit card owned by one Nkechi Esther Idoko and a First Bank mastercard belonging to Iweka Christopher Uchenna.’’ Badmos said investigation revealed that the suspect was not operating alone as he had an accomplice whose name was given as Samson Baba Ramadan, 28, who is at large.
