28-yr-Old Man Gets 21 Years Jail Term Over Robbery.

Follow @NigeriaPI A 28-year old man, Eberechi Mbachi, has been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for robbery offence. Mbachi was convicted by an Ikot Ekpene High Court, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, and was presided over by Justice Ntong Ntong. The accused, who stood trial on charge No. HT/8c/2015, was convicted on a one-count proffered against him by the Akwa Ibom State Government. He was alleged to have carried out the robbery with others now at large on April 12, 2014, at Kemson Filling Station located at No. 113, Umuahia Road, Ikot Ekpene. The accused and others at large, were said to have on the fateful day, broken into Kemson Filling Station belonging to one Mr Aniekan Ekanem, stole cash, stabiliser and other items. The accused alongside others were said to have succeeded in their operation after tying the security guard and locking him in a generator room. It was gathered that the armed robbers thereafter attempted to escape with their loot in a VW Golf car. Nemesis, however, was said to have caught up with Mbachi when he was arrested by the vigilance group within the vicinity of the filling station, while the other suspects abandoned the car and fled. It was learnt that Mbachi was later arraigned on a one-court of robbery. The presiding judge in a judgment which lasted for about two hours had meticulously scrutinised the different and contradicting statements of Mbachi at both Ikot Ekpene Police Station and the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia in addition to his evidence in court before convicting him. 37-yr-Old Man Docked For Alleged Rape Of A 6-yr-Old Girl.

Follow @NigeriaPI A 37-year-old man, Segun Adebowale, was on Wednesday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged rape of a 6-year-old girl. The Police Prosecutor, Bankole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on February 24 in Igede-Ekiti. Mr. Olasunkanmi alleged that the accused, on the said date, raped the girl, during which she sustained some bruises, for which she was hospitalized. He said that the offence was punishable under Section 31 (2) of the Child’s Right Law of Ekiti State, 2012. The prosecutor applied for a short date of adjournment to enable him to send the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), for legal advice. Follow @NigeriaPI Three foreigners suspected to be members of the Boko Haram were on Sunday arrested in Gombe State, the Nigerian Army said. The Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, said on Sunday that the three Chadians were arrested in Gombe State. “The three Chadian terrorists suspects, Bilal Muhammed Umar, Bashir Muhammed and Muhammed Maigari Abubakar were arrested at Arawa and Mallam Inna Areas of Gombe metropolis,” the brigadier general said. “They were reported to be members of Albarnawi faction of the Boko Haram that operates in Chad and mostly northern part of Borno State but came to Gombe State for another heinous assignment.” The Boko Haram are believed to be split into two factions, one led by Albarnawi, believed to be a son of the sect’s late founder, Muhammed Yusuf, and the other led by the elusive Abubakar Shekau. The spokesperson said one of the arrested suspects, Mr. Umar, “attempted to escape and was shot on the leg. He was however apprehended and is receiving medical treatment. ” “The terrorists were also arrested with Improvised Explosive Device (IED), materials that they could have coupled and attacked parts of the state.” Mr. Usman said the suspects are in custody undergoing preliminary investigation. Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 14 at Ifaki-Ekiti. He said that the accused was charged with conspiracy, unlawful possession of human head and murdered of a 12-year-old boy, Joshua Ojo. He said that the accused went to pick the boy from his school at Ifaki community primary school in Ifaki-Ekiti, murdered him and cut off his head.
