Police Arraigns Man For Stealing 19 Car Batteries In Osun.

Follow @NigeriaPI A 35-year-oldman, Lawal Isiaka, was on Monday arraigned in an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged theft of 19 motor batteries. Isiaka is facing a three-count of conspiracy, theft and burglary. The prosecutor, Insp. Dopamu Olukayode, told the court that the accused committed the offences on February 24 at about 2:00 p.m. at Power Line area, Osogbo. Olukayode said that Isiaka conspired with one other now at large to steal 19 car batteries belonging to one Awoyemi Femi. He put the value of the 19 batteries at N345,000. The offences contravened Sections 516, 413, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. The counsel to the accused, Mr Lukeman Adeniyi, prayed the court to grant his client bail on the most liberal terms. Court Arraigns Sex Workers For Violent Act In Abuja.

Follow @NigeriaPI The police on Monday arraigned three commercial sex workers in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja for attacking and causing grievous hurt on colleagues. The defendants, Helen Gabriel, Joy Johnson and Ene Ahmed, all reside at Jabi Masallachi, Abuja, and are standing trial on two-count. The prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that Joy Opera and three others of same address with the defendants reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on Feb. 21. Dalhatu said on that date, the complainant reported that the defendants formed a common intention and attacked her and her colleagues at Eden Garden, Utako, Abuja, and inflicted serious injuries on their bodies with razor blades. He said the attack was “due to a little misunderstanding over a customer.” He added that the complainants were taken to Wuse General Hospital, Abuja, for treatment. The prosecutor noted that “the first defendant was the one who used the razor blade on the girls, while the second and third defendant were her girls.” He said the offence contravened sections 79 and 248 of the Penal Code. The first defendant pleaded guilty to the charges, while the second and third defendants pleaded not. Cynthia Nnamdi, Counsel to the second and third defendants, applied for their bail and assured that they would not jump. The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted bail to the second and third defendants in the sum of N30,000 and one surety each in like sum. Follow @NigeriaPI Two brothers, Rafiu Sodiq and Olalekan Sodiq, who allegedly broke into their employer’s house and stole property and cash valued at N36 million, were on Wednesday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. The accused, who are cleaners, are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, trespass and stealing. The prosecutor, Insp. Abbass Abayomi‎, told the court that the duo and others still at large committed the offences between Dec. 22, 2016 and ‎Jan. 31 at 7. 30 p.m. at No. 8, Gerrald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. Abayomi said that the brothers unlawfully broke into the house of the complainant, Mr Eke U. Eke, and stole some valuables including jewellery, all valued at N36 million. Items stolen include jewellery, gold, diamond valued at N20 million, seven pieces of fashion belt valued at N2.5 million. Others are some dollars equivalent of N2.5 million, 1, 000 pounds (N625,000) three iPads valued at N1.4 million, two watches valued at N1.2 million. The accused also allegedly stole two handbags valued at N2 million and two Bluetooth speakers valued at N350,000, all property of Eke. According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 285 (1) 305 (a), (b), 306 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. However, the duo pleaded innocence of the offences. The accused — Tosin Olabisi, 19; Jimoh Obrahim, 19; Rasheed Odumade, 19; Sheriff Agbomeji, 20; and Rasaki Ayinde, 40 — are facing a four-count bordering on conspiracy, stealing and murder. The prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Nwadione told the court that the accused committed the offences on December 18, 2016, at No. 5, Musiliu Murtala St., Poka in Epe. He said the accused, who were armed with a locally made pistol, robbed a man, Nurudeen Sanni, of his phone valued at N37, 250 and shot him on his forehead. The offences contravened Sections 222, 233 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 222 provides death sentence for offenders. Police Arrests Man With Possession On N8.9m N1000 Notes

Follow @NigeriaPI The Police in Nasarawa State said on Thursday that they had arrested a man, Wale Lawal, for being in possession of fake N1,000 notes worth N8.9m. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, told newsmen in Lafia that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday at Omgbolo Hotel in Bukan-sidi area of Lafia. Sadiq-Bello said officers from the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the command made the arrest following intelligence report. He said investigation had revealed that the suspect, who hailed from Lagos State, is a member of a syndicate that was producing and distributing counterfeit currency notes across the country. The commissioner said that the syndicate was based in Lagos and that investigation was ongoing with a view to apprehending other members. He said the suspect would be charged to court after investigation and called on the public to be very vigilant while carrying out cash transactions with other people. Meanwhile, the suspect has denied being a member of any syndicate and claimed innocence of the allegation.
