Follow @NigeriaPI A 30-year-old woman, Bola Anifowose, in possession of eight-year-old twins, was arrested alongside seven others by operatives of Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, while attempting to cross the border to Agadez in Niger Republic, where they intended to move over to Libya and, finally, to Europe. The Comptroller of the Command, Alhaji Mohammed Rabiu, disclosed this in Katsina yesterday. He said they were arrested following intelligence information received by his men. According to him, ”luck ran out on them when they were trying to cross the Nigerian border through irregular route to Niger Republic and were intercepted by our operatives. “One of them is in possession of forged ECOWAS Travel Certificate. The remaining seven have no travel documents at all. “The suspected victims will be handed over to NAPTIP zonal office, Kano, for further action.” The twins were arrested along with a 30-year-old woman, who claimed to be their mother, and all are from Oyo State. Follow @NigeriaPI An aircraftman of the Nigerian Air Force, Ben Kalu, who has been in custody for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Solape Oladipupo, at the NAF base in Makurdi, Benue State, will face a court-martial on Friday. Kalu, who had been in custody for over two months at the NAF Tactical Command, Makurdi, would begin the process of court-martial on Friday, after which he would be handed over to the appropriate security agency for prosecution. Kalu had on Sunday, March 12, shot dead Oladipupo, popularly called Shomzy, in her apartment at the base, on the grounds that she was unfaithful in their romantic affair. The aircraft man, who met the lady at a parade ground some months before the incident, had afterwards left a suicide note, threatening to kill himself, before he was arrested by the NAF. Oladipupo was rushed to the NAF Hospital at the base and later transferred to the state hospital, where she died. The air force authorities had thereafter taken Kalu for psychiatric tests in the course of their investigation. A top NAF source, who disclosed the court-martial on Tuesday, said the long delay in Kalu’s prosecution was because he was attached to the Logistics Command, Ikeja, Lagos State, but served in Makurdi. He will be court-martialled on Friday and by next week, he will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution. Follow @NigeriaPI Lagos socialite, Mrs Fumilola Arike Ogbuaya, who was declared wanted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in connection with unlawful exportation of 1.595kg of cocaine to Saudi Arabia three months ago, has reported at the agency’s Lagos Command. The anti-narcotics agency commenced investigation on Mrs. Ogbuaya after arresting one Odeyemi Omolara Morayo, also known as Ariyo Monsurat Olabisi, for drug trafficking. The suspect, during interrogation, implicated Ogbuaya. Several invitations, according to the NDLEA, to the socialite for questioning was not honoured. The agency’s head of Public Affairs, Ofoyeju Mitchell, who confirmed Ogbua’s visit, disclosed that NDLEA had also secured an interim forfeiture order for several assets worth billions of naira traced to Mrs Ogbuaya. He said: “The suspect reported at the NDLEA office, weekend, in response to the manhunt organised for her in relation to the investigation of one Odeyemi Omolara Morayo, alias Ariyo Monsurat Olabisi, who was caught with cocaine on her way to Saudi Arabia. “Subsequently, the Lagos residence of Mrs Fumilola Arike Ogbuaya was traced by a team of investigators but she was not at home. Sambo Dasuki (retd.). Usman and two companies linked to him- Leaderettehe Nigeria Limited and Nordeen Global Resources – were among 300 others listed among those who allegedly received contracts from the Office of the National Security Adviser while he was still in office. The anti-graft agency said Musa allegedly diverted N897m he received from the ONSA fund and allegedly used it to build the estate. The inscription, ‘EFCC, Keep Off!’ was spotted on the 18 terrace houses in the estate which is located at Mbora District, Abuja. A statement by EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren also said Usman allegedly used part of the money to buy a three bed-room flat at OAU Quarters Wuse 2 Abuja. Follow @NigeriaPI The Court of Appeal has fixed July 5, 2017 to hear the appeal filed by Patience, the wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, to challenge the interim order of the Federal High Court in Lagos which temporarily froze her Skye Bank account with a balance of $5.9m. Patience’s lawyer, Mr. Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN) and Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), who disclosed this on Monday, therefore, urged Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court to suspend further proceedings in the case pending the outcome of the appeal. Ozekhome, who represented La Wari Furniture and Bath Limited, whose Ecobank account with a balance of N2.4bn was also frozen, argued that it would be disrespectful for Justice Olatoregun to proceed with the case after the appeal had been entered and the appellate court had issued a hearing notice. “The appeal in this matter has been entered and going by Rule 5 of the Court of Appeal Rules, this court ceases to exercise jurisdiction to proceed in this matter. It will amount to an illegal judicial voyage if this court embarks on the proceedings in this matter,” Ozekhome contended at the Monday proceedings. Consequently, Justice Olatoregun, in a short ruling, adjourned the case till September 24, 2017 to give the parties time to “ventilate their views in the appellate court.” She held, “I have seen the hearing notice issued by the Court of Appeal. Follow @NigeriaPI The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it will stage an anti-corruption walk on Tuesday to further encourage Nigerians on the need to shun corruption. A statement from the EFCC’s head of media and publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said the walk will hold simultaneously in 10 states of the federation where the commission currently has offices. According to the statement, the walk which will be led by the acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, is part of activities to mark the second year of this administration’s fight against corruption. The ruling All Progressives Congress led by President Muhammadu Buhari will on May 29 attain its second year since the party assumed leadership of Nigeria, and began its plan to fight corruption in the country. According to the statement, the EFCC, says it will involve various stakeholders from major sectors of the economy in the rally. “The EFCC walk against corruption is expected to feature stakeholders from diverse sectors including the organized labour, youth organizations, women groups, civil society organizations, and lots more. The exercise is expected to hold simultaneously in all the cities where the EFCC currently have offices.
