Follow @NigeriaPI The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a lady in Agbor, Delta State for drugging her man friend in a hotel in Ojodu area of Lagos State and carting away his car, laptop and mobile phone. The lady, Mitchel Harrold, 37, from Warri, Delta State, was on Tuesday arrested after the operatives traced her through a car dealer in Lagos. Harold had engaged the car dealer to help perfect import papers for the stolen Volkswagen Passat Wagon, 2001 model. It was learnt that the suspect had on January 19, 2017 at about 5:30pm, together with her man friend, a medical doctor, checked into a popular hotel (name withheld) in Ojodu, Berger, with the plan to spend the night. Harrold had after settling down gone to get a malt drink and yoghurt, while the boyfriend was taking his bath. Bayelsa: Woman Poisons Her Two Children Over Husbands Failure To Provide For Them Last Christmas.

Follow @NigeriaPI 32 year old Helen Okwata Azibabeh, pictured above, is currently in a prison in Bayelsa state after she forced her two children, one year old Gloria and two year old son Innocent, to drink Parafox, a popular herbicide used for curbing weeds, just because their father failed to provide Christmas clothing for them last year. Azibabeh committed the act in Kolo, Ogbia Local Government area, Bayelsa State on December 22nd last year. According to The Sun, while the little girl Gloria escaped death by the whiskers, her two year old brother, Innocent, was not so lucky as he died instantly after swallowing the lethal substance. When interrogated, Azibabeh said the anger she had towards her husband for failing to provide for his family, forced her to commit the crime. She says she regrets her actions. “I didn’t see any of the Christmas clothes my two children could wear. Early in the morning, I went to the market and bought Parafox, a substance that is used to kill grasses and I gave it to my two children to drink. Gloria was able to survive due to self-medication and hospital treatment, but her brother, Innocent died on the spot after he drank the poison. Suspected Cultist Attacks Police Station In Edo State, free Prisoners

Follow @NigeriaPI Armed men, suspected to be cultists, have attacked a police station in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State and freed two of their colleagues in detention. It was learnt that the attackers had gained access to the police station located in Ibillo after disguising as relatives of their colleagues on February 2, 2017. They were said to have shot sporadically, killing a woman in the process. The attackers were said to have successfully freed their colleagues and run away. Confirming the report, State Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu, said that the freed suspects had been arrested for alleged rape. He said, “Two rapists were arrested at Ibillo and unknown to the police, the suspects were cultists. Their members went to the police station. “But the police did not know they were there to rescue their members. She was busted after Police followed up information about drug dealers in Buccleauch. The woman identified as Clara Maduka was caught with 594 wrapped cocaine rocks at an estimated value of R90 000. Maduka appeared before the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Wednesday for dealing in drugs and was remanded in custody. Soldier Sentenced To Death For Rapping And Stabbing A Married Woman.

Follow @NigeriaPI An Abuja High Court has okayed a soldier, Lance Corporal Oge Etudo to die by hanging after he was found guilty of r*pe and culpable homicide. The 30 years old convicted soldier was said to have on March 27, 2014, at Dei-Dei, a suburb of the FCT, abducted, r*ped and stabbed a married woman identified as Binta Usman Kadede to death inside the bush. The soldier was previously attached to a battalion of Nigerian Army at Lungi Barracks in Abuja. He as found to have acted in breach of sections 220 and 221 of the Penal Code law. Trial Justice A.S. Adepoju who declined plea of allocutus by the defence lawyer, stressed that pictorial evidence adduced before the court showed that the defendant gruesomely murdered his victim. “I will not also show mercy to him”, the Judge who was almost moved to tears declared. Consequently, the court convicted the defendant on a two-count criminal charge that was entered against him by FCT commissioner of police. The defendant had earlier pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He equally entered a no-case-submission after the prosecution closed its case after it called four witnesses and tendered 21 exhibits. Following the dismissal of his no-case-submission, the accused soldier decided to testify for himself, maintaining that he was innocent of the charge. The killing of an Ayede indigene, Seyi Oladipo, over the land dispute had last week sparked a wild protest as the youths of the town stormed Itaji to protest his death. His assailants were said to have trailed the farmer to his farm where they inflicted several machete cuts on him before cutting off his head and hands after which they made away with severed head. A Chief in Orisunmibare it was learnt was also sustained machete injuries wounds by suspected Ayede youths who accused him of firing the shot that killed Oladipo. Kidnappers Kill Five And Abducts One In Lagos.

It was learnt that the abductors numbering about 11, were in the creek shooting sporadically since 7pm before they finally stormed the residence of the secretary of the Estate, Mr. Dayo Adekoya, around 11pm on Wednesday and abducted him. Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday directed the State Police Command to ensure prompt arrest of kidnappers who struck on Wednesday evening in Isheri area of the State killing three security guards. The kidnappers were said to have also abducted the Secretary of the Isheri North Residents Association, Mr. Dayo Adekoya. A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, said Governor Ambode has already directed the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni to move decisively and promptly to arrest the kidnappers. The accused were arraigned alongside four companies: Universal Contractors, Lambda Energy Services Limited, Double Wonder Concept Limited, and ICS Energy Services Limited. Bida and his co-accused sometime in 2014 allegedly conspired to defraud one Donald Latella of North Park LLC of $1million under the pretext of supplying about two million barrels of Bonny Light Crude Oil. The offence contravenes Section 8 (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act. 23-year-Old Suspect Arrested For Robbing A Bank Customer.

The suspect George Onuh who was accompanied by his gang member still at large had waylaid and dispossessed their victim one Bola who was carrying a large sum of money just withdrawn from the bank. The alarm raised by the victim attracted the police operatives on patrol around the vicinity, who trailed the suspects to law school area where one of the suspects was apprehended and the cash recovered from him while the other fled with the motorcycle used for the operation. The victim while narrating her ordeal to the police, said she had gone to GTBank on Adetokunbo Ademola street to withdraw some cash, and in the banking hall she sighted the suspect and thought he was a customer but was surprised when the same supposed customer waylaid her and pointed a gun at her to dispossess her of her money. Nigerian Gets 27 Years Jail Time In US For Internet Love Scam.

Follow @NigeriaPI A US court on Thursday sentenced a Nigerian, Olayinka Ilumsa Sunmola, to 27 years in jail for international romance scam he perpetrated from 2007 to 2014. Lagos-born Sunmola, who was the ringleader of a love scam organisation based in South Africa, was also ordered to repay $1.7m. Judge David Herndon of a US district Court in East St. Louis heard how Sumola and others scammed many American women of millions of dollars while parading themselves as American soldiers stationed overseas or engineers working on a large government contract in South Africa. They cultivated romantic relationships with dozens of women using pictures of men they found online, sometimes pictures of dead servicemen from memorial websites. Prosecutors said Sumola’s activities drove some to bankruptcy and at least one to the brink of suicide. The 33-year-old showered the women with poetry, cards, flowers, stuffed animals, and chocolates until he has successfully entrapped them. Once his target his entrapped, Sunmola began to manufacture emergencies, each of which required increasingly large amounts of money from his victims. Sunmola used their money for lavish parties, two Range Rovers, four properties in South Africa and a $363,000 home in Nigeria, prosecutors said. A federal grand jury sitting in East St. Louis indicted Sunmola in November 2013 on charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy, and interstate extortion. Ex-policemen On Trial For Torturing Man To Death Over Blackberry Phone.

The accused, Awodeyi Adesola, Adekunle Adedeji and Adepetu Olamilekan, were arraigned following an allegation of torturing a suspect which led to his death. The prosecutor, Mr Wale Bamisile, told the court that the accused tortured one Oluwatobi Badmus while he was in their custody when they were still in the service of the Nigeria Police Force. He said that the victim was arrested for allegedly stealing a BlackBerry phone belonging to one Prophet Bisi Adejuyigbagbe. The prosecutor said that the torture from the ex-policemen was presumed to have led to the untimely death of the victim shortly after his release from police custody on July 21, 2016. According to him, the offence is contrary to Section 317 and Punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006. The prosecution had called two witnesses out of 11 witnesses. The prosecution counsel, however, moved an application for the adjournment of the case to enable him prepare and bring other witnesses to court. Follow @NigeriaPI The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday arraigned a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Nze Chidi Duru before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, on charges of forgery of company’s board resolution and alleged diversion of N16.2m shares proceeds. Duru, who was then in June 2010 the Vice-Chairman of First Gurantee Pension Ltd, allegedly diverted the sum of N16.2m said to be proceeds of part payments for the company’s shares sold to another firm, Novare Holdings Proprietary Limited. The defendant was said to have been “entrusted with dominion over” the sums of N15m and N1,23,646.58 (totaling N16.2m), being part payments of 30 per cent equity shares of FGP Limited sold to Novare NHP Limited. The prosecution accused him of diverting the money in July 2010 “to pay for land allocations from Lagos State Government in favour of Grand Towers Plc and MVJJDA Africa Limited, companies of which you have interest”. The EFCC alleged that the defendant committed criminal breach of trust, an offence punishable under section 315 of the Penal Code Act Cap. 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria,1990. He was also said to have in June 2008 “knowingly and fraudulently” made “false document, “an ordinary resolution of First Guarantee Pension Limited dated June 2, 2008, purporting same to have been signed by all the subscribers/shareholders” of the company.
