Follow @NigeriaPI The Rivers state police command today arrested three persons in connection with the murder of a Jumia delivery man who had gone to deliver an iPhone and a motorbike to a prospective buyer at a compound in the Ada-George area of Rivers state. According to OAP, Blessing Olomu, the suspected were alleged to have perpetrated the heinous act on Saturday, 25th of March when the victim was on his way to make a delivery to the address at Ada George Road, Port Harcourt. The suspects which included two males and a female, who never intended to pay for the ordered goods, bound the man and threw him into a septic tank with the hopes that he would never be found. Court Remands Mortuary Attendant Caught With Human Head.

Follow @NigeriaPI A mortuary attendant at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Muritala Raimi, 57, who was arraigned Monday before Magistrate Akanni Monsurat of Ibadan Magistrates’ Court for stealing a human skull in the morgue has been remanded at the Agodi Prisons, Ibadan. Raimi who was arraigned on a two-count charge was remanded in Agodi Prison for failing to meet conditions attached to his bail. Magistrate Akanni granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties, he ordered, must be a member of the family. He adjourned the case to May 5, 2017 for further hearing. The accused was alleged to have decapitated the head of the yet to be identified corpse and concealed it in a bag. He was arrested by the security guard on his way out of the hospital. He was later handed over to the police. Man bags 2 months imprisonment for stealing N170

Follow @NigeriaPI A Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced one Wisdom Gabriel, 22, to two months imprisonment for stealing N 170 at a chemist’s shop in old Karmo Market. The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict N5,000 option of fine. The judge said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others that may be tempted to commit similar crime. Gabriel who resides at Aiko Estate, Life Camp Gwarinpa, pleaded with the judge to tamper justice with mercy. He was found guilty on a count charge of stealing a box containing N170. The convict told the court that satan pushed him into the crime. Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Helen Atusu of old Karmo arrested and brought the convict to Karmo Police Station, on March 24, 2017. Dalhatu said that the complainant said that on the same date, the convict broke into her chemist’s shop at old Karmo Market and made away with her box containing N170. Teenager docked for stabbing friend

Follow @NigeriaPI The Police on Tuesday arraigned 18-year-old Jimoh Idowu, in an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing a friend, Toheeb Jimoh, with a stick in the eyeball. Though Idowu pleaded not guilty, the Magistrate, Mr M.A.Etti, ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody. Etti ordered that Idowu should be remanded in prison due to the critical condition of the complainant. The prosecutor, Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye, told the court that the defendant, who resides at Ajegunle area of Lagos, committed the offence on March 14 around 4.30 p.m. at Railway Line, Ijora Badia, Lagos. He said the accused assaulted Idowu with a sharp stick. Kokoye alleged that the two were coming back from school when an argument ensued between them. The prosecutor said the complainant was rushed to the hospital by pedestrians, who were at the scene of the incident. Kokoye said that Idowu tried to escape after the incident, but was apprehended by witnesses and taken to the police station. He said the offence contravened Section 244 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Court sentences 10 men to two weeks imprisonment for loitering

Follow @NigeriaPI A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced 10 men to two weeks imprisonment each for loitering. The men, Emmanuel Hassan, Bagu Ayuba, Nicholas Jeremiah, Uchenna Hysinth, Tunde Musa, Daniel Abel, Paul Bago, Adeniyi Oladepo, Nicholas Titus, and Awalu Usman, were arraigned on a charge of constituting public nuisances. The convicts were accused of loitering around Gwarimpa area, Abuja, an offence they admitted committing. The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the men an option of N2,000 fine each and warned them to desist from committing crimes. Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that a police patrol team attached to Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, led by DSP Solomon Adebayo, arrested the men on March 25. Auhioboh said that the men were arrested while loitering at an area in Gwarimpa notorious for crimes. She said that when the police quizzed the men, they could not give satisfactory explanation of their mission in the area. The prosecutor said that the offence committed was punishable under Section 183 of the Penal Code. Herdsmen Invade Benue Prison Farm, Kill Inmate

Follow @NigeriaPI The Benue Prisons Service on Monday confirmed that herdsmen invaded its Jato-Aka Farm Centre and killed an inmate, one Tersoo Agidi. ASP Stephen Nwanchor, Public Relations Officer, Benue Prisons Service, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi that the incident took place on Saturday at the farm centre. Nwanchor said that the invasion was not a failed jail break attempt. “This is a new farm centre established in January, 2017. The herdsmen invaded the place, destroyed property, shot and killed one Tersoo Agidi, an inmate. “We have evacuated all the remaining inmates from the farm centre to Gboko, pending the outcome of the investigation. “We are not taking anything for granted. My Controller of Prison is on top of the issue, and all relevant security operatives in the state have been notified,” Nwanchor said. The PRO said the service was investigating the invasion to ascertain the remote cause, noting that no arrest had been made so far. EFCC Probe Details How Senate President Saraki And His Aides Embezzled N3.5B From Paris Club Loan Refunds

Follow @NigeriaPI Oficials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have formally named Senate President Bukola Saraki, a former Managing Director of Heritage Bank, Robert Mbonu, a firm, Melrose General Services Limited, the relationship manager to Mr. Saraki, Kathleen Erhimu, the deputy Chief of Staff to Senator Saraki, Gbenga Peter Makanjuola, as targets of an investigation into the embezzlement of as much as N19 billion that accrued as refunds to state governments that had made excess payments on loans obtained from international lenders, the London and Paris Clubs. Also named by the EFCC as players in the huge scandal are Kolawole Shittu, the supplier of a controversial Range Rover vehicle to Senator Saraki, as well as one Obiora Amobi and one Oladapo Joseph Idowu. In a report forwarded to the Presidency and obtained by SaharaReporters, the EFCC wrote, “Mr. Robert Mbonu is alleged to have received the sum of N3.5 billion into his company’s account (Melrose General Services Limited) from the [Nigerian Governors’ Forum] through Account 0005892453 domiciled in Access Bank.” The report identified “one Kathleen Erhimu [as] the Relationship Manager to Dr. Bukola Saraki’s account with Access Bank.” The elaborate EFCC report authenticates a series of reports in which SaharaReporters disclosed that Mr. Saraki as well as numerous governors colluded to pocket most of the billions of naira in refunds. I was forced to kill 13 people, says 17-year-old Boko Haram suspect

Newsmen report that the suspect was arrested by men of the Borno Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after he was sent on a mission by his Commander to spy on Maiduguri. He told newsmen in an interview in Maiduguri that he was sent by the terrorists to assess situation in Baga Road, Monday market and Custom market in Maiduguri, and report back. “I was kidnapped in Marte by the insurgents when they stormed the town in 2013 and they took us away to Chikungudu forest in Kalabalge local government area. Court adjourns Shema’s corruption trial till June 6

Follow @NigeriaPI A Katsina State High Court on Tuesday adjourned hearing in the corruption trial involving a former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shema, till June 6. Shema is is standing trial for alleged conspiracy, forgery and diversion of N11 billion public funds. Arraigned alongside the former governor are former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Sani Makana, former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Lawal Safana and former ALGON Chairman, Lawal Dankaba. The offences contravene Sections 312 and 364, Cap 96 of the Penal Code, Laws of Katsina State, 1991. When the case came up for hearing on Tuesday, Justice Ibrahim Bako said the adjournment became necessary following the defendants’ application challenging the court’s jurisdiction to try the case. He said the court stepped down the case until the appeal court rule on the matter. “The court has adjourned the case to June 6 for situation report on the matter,’’ the judge said. Probe uncovers massive fraud in YouWin programme

Follow @NigeriaPI An ongoing probe, ordered by the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has uncovered a massive fraud in the Federal Government Youth Enterprise With Innovation In Nigeria programme. A reliable source in the ministry of finance told The PUNCH that investigators had already discovered that some senior civil servants gave out or facilitated slots worth between N7m and N10m each to their spouses, children and friends. Some of these awardees, the source said, would not have qualified for the grants if they were not aided by their “connections” within and outside the ministry. An original initiative of the ministry which began during the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, YouWin was conceived to help youth entrepreneurs grow existing businesses and create employment. The source, who insisted that the probe had not been concluded by the investigators, added that their initial findings were so worrisome that the minister had decided that the entire programme should be restructured. “The fraud uncovered in the programme made the minister to restructure the programme and turn its focus into enterprise education,” the source added. He abducted the housewife from her matrimonial home into a bush where he raped her. Twelve other men were also arrested for allegedly raping minors in the state. Parading the suspects in Dutse, the Commissioner of Police, Rasheed Akintunde, said Mohammed’s victim identified him, adding that he had since confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court. The police have also arrested seven out of a group of nine suspects who were alleged to have serially raped two sisters last month. Those arrested in connection to the rape of the sisters include Ahmadu Abdullahi, Suleman Salisu, Abdullahi Dantsara, Dahiru Danbaba alias Danliti, Jamilu Garba, Surajo Ali and Hassan Mati all of Yankwashe LGA. The two others are still at large. The police boss explained that one Nura Garba of Zarenawa quarters of Birnin Kudu, who raped a 15-year-old girl was also arrested. According to him, in February, a still born baby was found by the police in an uncompleted building and upon investigation, it was discovered that the girl was the mother. Police Confirmed The Kidnap Of Two Businessmen In Sokoto By Gunmen.

Follow @NigeriaPI The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of two businessmen – Labbo Giyawa and Murtala Dantata – by some unknown gunmen. The Command’s spokesman, El-Mustapha Sani, said in Sokoto on Monday that the two men were kidnapped at Giyawa, Goronyo Local Government Area of the state. Sani said, “I can confirm the abduction of the two businessmen on Sunday night, at around 10 p.m. “They were seized by some gun-wielding men, while they were reportedly sleeping in the frontage of their various houses. “They were said to have been taken to an unknown destination, but the police is suspecting that they were being held captive in the nearby Gundumi Forest.” He, however, said that the kidnappers were yet to establish communication with either their families or the police. Sani said that the command had taken stern measures to ensure the safe rescue of the captives. The suspect, Eze hails from Nsukka, in Enugu state. He was, however, arrested by the police and taken to Criminal Investigation Department, CID, of the state Police Headquarters, Abakaliki following a tip-off. DSS Arrest Boko Haram Commander Who Escaped In 2010 In Bauchi

A Boko Haram commander who escaped from prison in 2010 has been re-arrested, the Department of State Security Services (DSS), has said. In a statement by a Tony Opuiyo, the SSS said that the service arrested Nasiru Sani, also known as Osama, in Bauchi on March 15. He said Mr. Sani escaped from Bauchi Central Prison in October 2010 and hid in Maiduguri, Borno State, adding that in continuation of the service crack down on insurgents, it arrested another suspect, Adamu Jibrin, at Jeka-da-Fari Market in Gombe on March 13. He said the suspect who operated under the pseudo name of Dantata Sule, serves as a middleman for Boko Haram members and their commanders, adding that the suspect had affirmed his membership of the sect. Opuiyo said in sustaining its operation, the service also arrested a suspected Boko Haram commander and food supplier, Ibrahim Fulata, and three of his associates in Dustsen Tanshi area of Bauchi State on February 28. He said the suspects were being questioned to establish other possible members of the network, adding that the service had also arrested Boko Haram suspects in Kano, Kogi and Yobe.
