Follow @NigeriaPI The Police in Anambra has confirmed the death of an officer allegedly killed by suspected armed robbers operating at Nkpor flyover along the Onitsha/Enugu expressway in Anambra. Hassan Musa, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ogidi, who confirmed the attack, told newsmen on Wednesday in Nkpor that the incident occurred about 9 p.m. on Feb. 28. “We took the dead and the wounded to Borromeo hospital; investigation is on. We are going to arrest the fleeing robbers,” Musa vowed. An eyewitness said nine suspected armed robbers riding on three motorcycles, killed a police officer and injured another during a shootout. Follow @NigeriaPI A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 28-year-old man, Abdulaziz Hassan, for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old boy. Hassan of Rimin Kebe Quarters Kano was charged with unnatural offence, contrary to the prosecutions of Section 284 of the Penal Code. The prosecutor, Insp. Shuaibu Musa, told the court that one Alhaji Abubakar of the same address reported the case at the Zango Police Division, Kano, on Feb.20. Musa said that on Feb. 17, the accused lured the complainant’s 11-year-old son into his shop situated at Rimin Kebe Quarters, Kano. He said, “Hassan had carnal knowledge with the victim and gave him N100.’’ The prosecutor said that on Feb. 18, the accused also had another unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim. The accused pleaded not guilty to the one count charge. Follow @NigeriaPI An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Tuesday sentenced a 21-year-old man, Tunde Kareem to one-year imprisonment for stealing generator parts valued at N15,000. The Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, sentenced Kareem after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bordering on stealing and conspiracy. Banwo said that the jail term without an option of fine should serve as deterrent to others. Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Follow @NigeriaPI A Lokoja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded three persons allegedly accused of snatching a Toyota Camry car from a family at gun-point and robbing them of their belongings. The accused, Babalola Taiwo, 27, a public servant, Aijeniko Paul, 21, student and Samson Kolawole, 43, a businessman were remanded at the Koton-Karfe Prisons on the orders of the court. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Levi Animoku, who gave the order on arraignment of the accused said that the offence of armed robbery preferred against them was a serious social vice that had permeated the society. “I have considered the application for the bail of the accused persons. Follow @NigeriaPI The Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a serving police inspector with a police truck loaded with 75 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis. Forty-three-year-old Abali Zagi was among the 14 suspected drug peddlers paraded on Monday at the Kogi State Command of the NDLEA. The state Commander, Muhammed Bello, put the street value of the over 800 kilogrames of the cannabis found with the inspector at N4m. The suspect was said to have gone to Okpila in Edo State using the Force headquarters, Abuja, welfare bus to transport the cannabis. “When he got to the Crusher area of Lokoja, luck ran out on him as he was apprehended together with the truck, with number plate NPF 7973 C,” Bello said.
