A Jos magistrate’s court on Wednesday sentenced a labourer, Mohammed Tijjani, to two years imprisonment for stealing assorted shoes valued at N933,000.
Tijjani, a resident of Jugwa Extension, New Karu in Nassarawa State, was arraigned on three counts of criminal conspiracy, store breaking and theft.
The magistrate, Mrs. Helen Danboyi, handed down the sentence after the accused pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
The prosecutor, Karimu Bashiru, had told the court that one Udeh Ubong of Rayfield, Jos reported the case to Anglo Jos police station, on February 8.
Bashiru quoted Udong as saying that on the said date, the accused burgled his store through the roof, and stole assorted shoes, valued at a total of N933,000
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the accused confessed to the crime.
Bashiru said that the offence was punishable under sections 348, 347 and 287 of the Penal Code.
