Follow @NigeriaPI Audu Maikori, a Nigerian lawyer and CEO of Chocolate City Entertainment, has been arrested by the police. The arrest is linked to his tweets about a fatal attack on his relatives in Southern Kaduna that turned out to be false, his lawyer said Friday. Mark Jacobs told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Maikori, 41, was arrested in Lagos around noon Friday by a team of police officers attached to inspector-general monitoring and intelligence team and was immediately transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja. “I arrived at the Force Headquarters and learnt that a detention order has already been signed for him,” Mr. Jacobs said of his client. “I am not sure he will be released tonight.” Mr. Jacobs said he was told by the police that a magistrate issued warrant for Mr. Maikori’s arrest and are planning to charged him with attempt to “incite” the public. Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, did not immediately respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ requests for comments Friday night. The arrest of Mr. Maikori, a vocal advocate for the plight of residents of the restive area, came nearly four weeks after he narrated an attack that purportedly took place in Southern Kaduna. In a series of tweets on January 23, Mr. Maikori said his driver, later identified as Simon Joseph, told him that he lost his brother in a Fulani herdsmen ambush in Southern Kaduna and will be travelling for burial. “My driver’syounger brother and five others students of college of education Gidan Waya were ambushed and killed by herdsmen yesterday #SouthernKaduna. “They were in a commercial car going back to school when the...

Follow @NigeriaPI The Borno Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it had arrested three herbal medicine vendors who disguised as employers to defraud unemployed youths. The Commandant of the corps, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Sunday. Abdullahi said the suspects were arrested on Feb. 14 at Kofar Shehu area, Maiduguri. He said that the culprits posed as employers of labour and tried to dupe unemployed youths by taking money from them and promising to give them jobs. “Their nefarious activities were reported by two of the victims (names withheld) who said that they had collected about N5,000 each from them for a job. “One of the victims told the command that he was asked to bring about N17,000 to register for the Job. “He asked about the type of job and they said he should not worry when he registered, they would tell him about the job,” he said. The commandant said the suspects were using some fake documents from a Korea Company, Neo Life, with a Nigerian Coat of Arms, which was not registered by Cooperate Affairs Commission(CAC). “The employers’ address they gave were also fake as most of them denied having anything to do with them. “So far, we have recovered about 300 forms attached with money and passport of people they have registered. “The command, therefore, warns youths who are seeking for employment to be wary of criminal elements hiding under any guise to defraud people,” said...

Follow @NigeriaPI Body exhumed for investigation Men of the Nigeria Police in Lagos have exhumed the body of a woman who was allegedly killed by her husband and buried in a shallow grave. Sherifat Bello is suspected to have been killed for ritual purpose at Ijora, Lagos, by Shakiru Bello, last Monday. The offence was committed inside an uncompleted building in the area. Police sources said it was not Bello’s first attempt to kill his wife. An earlier attempt which involved the suspect inserting charm in the woman’s private part had led to their separation, sources said. However, the wife contacted Bello last week to ask for upkeep allowance for their three children. The suspect agreed to give her the money but asked her to come and collect it at a particular place in Ebute Metta, Lagos. Once they met at the designated place, they both moved to Ijora where he allegedly pounced on her. She died on the spot and the suspect allegedly proceeded to dismember her corpse apparently to remove certain parts of her body. He thereafter buried her remains in shallow grave and bolted from the scene. He then headed to his hometown, Ibadan, so that he might not be suspected of the murder. When the victim failed to return home, her relations raised the alarm, refusing to be deceived by Bello’s trip to Ibadan. The police were contacted and Bello was arrested. He confessed that he murdered Sherifat and led the police to the shallow grave. Recovered from the grave in the presence of a large crowd of people yesterday were the head, two hands...
