23-yr-old Dubai-based Nigerian arrested for visa fraud

Follow @NigeriaPI The police in Lagos State have arrested a 23 – year- old United Arab Emirate-based Nigerian,  Emu (other names withheld), for allegedly duping unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of procuring a Dubai visa for them. The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS)  after one of  his victims reported the incident at the Alausa Secretariat office of the security outfit. The victim, Abraham (other name withheld) had told the police that the suspect collected the sum of N400,000 from him with a promise that he would help him get a Dubai visa and a job. The suspect admitted to have collected the money from the victim, but insisted that he tried to get the visa for him. The victim said  “when I was laid off where I was working in Abuja, I had an intention of moving out of the country to start a new life. Then, I met his uncle, Samuel (other name withheld), who told me his nephew was working with one company  in the United Arab Emirate (UAE) and that he could help me  secure the country’s  visa. “We started to communicate via telephone and he assured me that he could secure Dubai Visa for me at a reasonable price, “ he added. The victim continued that “he requested for N400,000, but  I told him I could not afford such a  huge amount of money at that particular point in time. Follow @NigeriaPI A teenage girl who was forced into an arranged marriage at 14 has died in labour after suffering a brain hemorrhage. According to Huriyet daily news, Derya B was married in a religious ceremony and gave birth a week ago, aged 15. She died of complications related to giving birth at such a young age, it is believed. Derya died in a private hospital in Batman, east Turkey, yesterday October 17. Police are investigating the circumstances of her death. N4.7bn Arms probe: Obanikoro arrives Nigeria

Follow @NigeriaPI The former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, has arrived in Nigeria from his base in the United States to respond to an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in relation to N4.75bn arms funds traced to him. The former minister arrived in Lagos from the United States enroute Amsterdam and headed for Abuja to keep an earlier scheduled appointment with the EFCC on Monday. The  EFCC is investigating a firm, belonging o two sons of Obanikoro, Sylvan McNamara for receiving N4.75bn arms funds from the office of the former National Security Adviser between April 4, 2014, and December 15, 2014. The two sons are Babajide and Gbolahan. The commission is claiming with documentary proof  that a total of N4.745bn was paid into the Diamond Bank account of Sylvan McNamara during the period. The minister arrived Abuja from Lagos by 7:45am and was heading to the EFCC to keep his appointment with the anti-graft agency as of the time of filing this story.
