$2billion NNPC Money: CBN Lifts Ban On UBA As 8 Other Banks Remain Barred

Follow @NigeriaPI United Bank for Africa (UBA) has been omitted from the list of nine Nigerian Banks barred from the Foreign exchange market for allegedly hiding over $2 billion belonging to Nigerian National Petroleun Corporation (NNPC) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA). The development was conveyed by Tokunbo Martins, director, banking supervision of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday. Syndicate threatens doctors with abduction, collects N220,000

Follow @NigeriaPI The police in Lagos State have arrested a syndicate based in Enugu State, which allegedly called some medical doctors in the state and threatened them with abduction unless they parted with some money. PUNCH Metro learnt that the three-member syndicate had defrauded four doctors of N220,000 before a petition was written to the police on the criminal activity. Our correspondent gathered that two women, who were suspected members of the syndicate, identified as Rita Ojobo and Emmanuella Ossai, had been arrested, while a third member, Kelechi Ojobo, who allegedly made the call, was on the run. The police said Kelechi was based in Togo and he was the one who withdrew the money each time a doctor who had been threatened with abduction or murder, paid the amount billed for him. Our correspondent learnt that the two women were arrested in Enugu State by police operatives on Monday and brought to Lagos. A police source said the mode of operation of the gang was to call the targeted doctor and threaten him with abduction or murder, unless he was ready to appease the gang with a certain amount of money. Speaking with PUNCH Metro while being paraded at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja, 30-year-old Rita said Kelechi paid only N40,000 into her account from the sums collected from the victims. The mini-bus driver identified as one Rotimi Oriade was said to have impregnated his only sister who lives in the same one room apartment with him. The pregnancy alleged to be about four months old was noticed by women in the residence, after they saw the minor, Mariam (not real name) vomiting severally and confronted her with questions on Saturday.. Follow @NigeriaPI The Niger State Police Command has started investigations into the killing of the owner of Deploo Hotel and Suites, Mr. Lucky Okonkwo, who was murdered in his hotel in Suleja, Niger State. Punch Metro learnt that 59-year-old Lucky was stabbed to death on Friday by a three-man gang, suspected to be workers at the hotel, shortly after he returned from a trip to Kaduna. He was said to be at the hotel for the purpose of supervision. It was learnt that after killing the victim, the suspects took away the Closed Circuit Television decoder of the hotel, the victim’s phones and fled in his Peugeot 406 saloon car. They also took away a file containing certain information about the hotel. The security men at the hotel, who were the prime suspects, were reported to have fled immediately the incident happened and had since been unreachable on their telephone lines. They were identified as Frank Anavukko, Victor Anerah and Emmanuel Adeh. Punch correspondent was told that the incident was discovered on Saturday morning by a housekeeper who saw a pool of blood streaming out from the victim’s office. The matter was reported at the Madalla Police Division and some of the hotel workers were arrested. Lucky, an indigene of Delta State, was said to be the immediate past Vice-President of the Nigerian Association of Technology Engineering, North-West zone.
