14 abducted bus passengers regain freedom in Rivers

Follow @NigeriaPI Fourteen passengers kidnapped in Ogba/Egnema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State last Friday have regained freedom. The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the release of the passengers, saying that they were released on Sunday night. The passengers were kidnapped on Friday by gunmen, who intercepted their 14-seater bus along Elele-Ikiri-Omoku Road and diverted the vehicle to a nearby bush, where the occupants were ordered to walk into the bush. The bus marked ONELGA Link was set ablaze by the hoodlums. Spokesman of the state police command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said the victims were released after a tactical and diligent operation by operatives of the Command. Omoni disclosed that no ransom was paid for the release of the victims, adding that they (the victims) had since reunited with their families. “On the 12th of August, 2016, 14 passengers were abducted while traveling from Omoku to Port Harcourt in a bus. “In a swift reaction by the Command’s Tactical Units, the hostages were released unhurt. “They have been debriefed and have reunited with their families. Suspect with fake currencies escapes from police

Follow @NigeriaPI The police in Abuja have launched a manhunt for a Ghanaian, Asiedu Ofei, and one Femi, a Nigerian, reportedly notorious for producing fake currencies. It was learnt that Ofei, who was arrested sometime in July, 2016 in Ekiti State, had led the police operatives to apprehend his gang members in Seme, Lagos State, when he escaped. PUNCH Metro gathered seven cartons filled with counterfeited naira notes and cedis had earlier been recovered from the fleeing suspect. While in police custody, he was said to have mentioned Femi as one of his accomplices and promised to lead the operatives to the gang’s hideout. Our correspondent learnt that the policemen, who followed Ofei to Seme, had maintained some distance from him and told him to lure other members out of the supposed hideout. A police source told PUNCH Metro that the cops had lurked around the hideout with a view to rounding up the suspects the moment they came out. The source said Ofei, however, alerted his gang members to the presence of the police and they all fled the area via an alternative route. “He (Ofei) is a wanted suspect. He escaped about two weeks ago when the police took him to arrest other members of the gang in Seme. Follow @NigeriaPI A 35-year-old barber, Uche Emeroha, and a prophet, Kenneth Alozie, were paraded by the police on Thursday for allegedly abducting two sisters, who were returning from a summer class in the Igando area of Lagos State. Emeroha said Prophet Alozie allegedly promised to pay him N6,000 if he could abduct and bring two children to his church, Hope in God Healing Ministry in the Agboroko area, Iyana Iba. PUNCH Metro had reported on Thursday that two sisters – Jumia, six, and four-year-old Ayomide – were abducted on Olorunfemi Street in the Igando area while returning from the summer class around 2pm on Tuesday. It had been reported that the children, whose mother is a widow, were rescued by police operatives from the Igando division around 7pm on Wednesday and two suspected abductors were arrested. Our correspondents learnt that Emeroha, after allegedly abducting the girls on their way back home, had handed them over to a woman identified as Mama Chioma, who then took them to Alozie’s church. According to the police, Emeroha was the first suspect to be arrested and he, thereafter, led operatives to the hideout, where Alozie had hidden the girls. Alozie, who claimed to be a prophet, was also arrested. It was gathered that Mama Chioma was still on the run. According to her family members, on the day she went missing, she told her two older sons, Toni and Iyiola that she was going to see someone. When the older children woke up, they found the 7-page suicidal note she wrote to her children, mum and to whom it may concern. She stated that she was tired of life and that she was going to jump into the sea and that no one should look for her because by the time they find the letter, she knows that a shark would have eaten her up. According to the State Commissioner of Police, Henry Fadairo, another shocking case was reported at the Gumel Police Station, where the father of the victim gave details of what happened to his 10-year-old daughter. While highlighting the spate of the crimes in the state, he said one of the suspects charged to court was 40-year-old Idris Abdu, who was reported at the Hadejia Police Station to have taken a nine-year-old girl to his room and raped her. The suspect later confessed to the crime. His words: “The father of the 10-year-old girl reported at the Gumel Police Station that he saw his daughter holding some money. When he asked how she got the money, the girl said that one Mohammed Abdullahi, a 40-year-old man, took her to his room and raped her after which he gave her money. “The father of the girl said another man, identified as 25-year old Nasiru Mohammed forced the same girl into an uncompleted building and raped her again. “The girl told her father that the first man who raped her (Abdullahi) had also raped her 10-year-old friend. The father of the second victim also reported the case. The culprits confessed to their crimes, revealing that they had raped the girls on many times, he added.
